My #cashmerecrew5ways blogpost is up now, with this look AND a bonus look on the blog! (link in bio) This last look is mostly for practicality sake, because I wanted to try styling these snow boots I found at @editorconsign before we get any real snow here in Seattle ☃️😬 I’ve layered an older vest on top of the cashmere Crewneck and rolled up my jeans to make room for the snow boots, making these classic @mottandbow pieces more outdoor-friendly. Now just waiting on our first snow day!🤞🏽.

Look 4 of my #cashmerecrew5ways is my personal favorite! Though this specific combo kinda gives me “Elf” vibes 😂, I love the playfulness of throwing a simple sweater over a fun, flowy dress.
I found this foresty green @curatorsf dress secondhand at @editorconsign, and ALMOST didn’t get it cause there was a small sharpie stain across the front. But I’m SO glad I didn’t let that little imperfection stop me, cause it’s really the perfect piece for layering. Tbh, I don’t even notice the mark when I wear it.
I’ve paired the outfit with some earthy toned @hanselfrombasel socks, my @nisoloshoes Chelsea’s, and the @andytownsf beanie that David gifted me when we were doing long distance and he lived in SF.
Maybe it’s the beanie and the nostalgia associated with it, but I love this look for a date night, or evening out with friends. I’d definitely throw a wool coat on top for warmth when traveling to and from dinner or an outing; but the outfit itself is playful, yet dressy enough for those festive occasions!

(I guess I kind of look like I’m dancing) I’m wearing a deep greenish/turquoise shift dress with a white cashmere crew neck sweater on top, ochre socks with black Chelsea boots, and a cream colored beanie.

Look 3 of my #cashmerecrew5ways is a bit more dressed up than the prior looks, and office appropriate dependent on if jeans are okay in your workplace 🤔 Both of my jobs are pretty informal, so for this look I’ve got the same @mottandbow boyfriend jeans & cashmere crew neck from the look 1 as a base layer. To dress it up a bit, I’ve thrown on my #secondhand @frankandoak plaid blazer, and @everlane Day Glove Flats.
I’ve definitely done similar iterations of this outfit during warmer seasons, but swapping out a shell top or blouse for the crew neck sweater helps switch this look over from spring/fall to winter pretty seamlessly. And if denim is too casual in your office, swapping out the jeans for a pair of slacks create the same classic combo, but with a business-casual twist!

Look 2 of my #cashmerecrew5ways and I’m keeping it cozy for a work from home day!
For this look, I’ve simply thrown the sweater on top of my @eileenfisherrenew jumpsuit, and paired it with some @hanselfrombasel socks and #secondhand @swedishhasbeens clogs. The scarf was a gift from David a couple Christmas’s ago, and is such a cozy addition for when I need to leave the apartment to grab the mail, a coffee, or run a quick errand.
Side note: I’ve committed to team socks-with-clogs this winter 😅 it’s too cold these days not to, and the @hanselfrombasel sale set me up with some cute ones!

So I know I shared a LOT this weekend regarding ethical brands and sales they were having. If you weren’t already on the lookout for particular pieces, THANK YOU for bearing with me. And if you were, I hope you found JUST what you were looking for, at an accessible price point this weekend.
But in the air of creativity, I’d like to shift gears this week and share some winter styling with an item you likely ALREADY have in your closet — a cashmere crew neck sweater! And even if not cashmere, most of us have some form of a crew neck in our closets.
This week, I plan to style this @mottandbow cashmere crew 5 ways, to hopefully give y’all ideas on how you might personally style this classic capsule piece.
This sweater & these boyfriend jeans were gifted to me by @mottandbow in exchange for a blogpost I’ll share at the end of the week, but I thought I’d have some fun with the pieces in the meantime since they’re such versatile classics.
For today, I’ve kept it simple by pairing the sweater with black jeans. This is a great combo for casually lounging around the apartment on weekends, and can also be dressed up when paired with some classy shoes, and elegant jewelry. Personally, I like to keep it somewhere in the middle by pairing it with comfy sneakers, and a simple gold necklace & earrings!

I know that today is Black Friday, and you don’t need another ad. But I also know that this weekend may be the only weekend in the year that ethical fashion brands become a bit more financially accessible. So while I don’t encourage unnecessary consumption, I DO want to highlight brands that are having excellent sales this morning, for those who’ve been considering trying out and investing in some long-term, responsibly made pieces.
So today’s #ethicalootd highlights a couple of those sales:
@tradlands (this shelter cardigan, size xs in burnt sienna) is giving 20% off orders of $100+ with the code HOLIDAY20, and 25% off orders of $200+ with the code HOLIDAY25. If you want, you can also support me as an affiliate shopping with the link in my bio — but no pressure!
@blakegoodsbrooklyn (circle belt in jet), is having a sample sale, with some pieces being $30-$40.
@mottandbow (boyfriend jeans, altered for my petite frame 😬) is having 25% Off Sitewide, 30% Off Orders $250+, and 35% Off Orders $400+. And @everlane (secondhand Day Glove flats, size 6.5) is donating $10 for every order placed, up to $300 thousand to Oceana, which works to protect & restore the world’s oceans. I know that’s not a sale, but is still a pretty cool thing.
SO friends — IF you’re shopping today, consider shopping consciously. While there are so many businesses out there selling things solely for profit, there are also businesses that are trying to create more ethical, and sustainable options that respect the people making them, and the world we live in. I’ll share a handful of my favorite small businesses, and ethical fashion brands in IG stories later today & this weekend, but I really encourage you to be thoughtful about your purchases, should you choose to make any!

Zooming in on yesterday’s #ootd to share the story behind this gorgeous handmade piece by Tamao Nakayama of @artdetama. Now based in LA, Tamao grew up in Tokyo; where she was raised by a master Kimono maker, and surrounded by neighborhood craftsmen & traditional Japanese architecture. It’s the natural elements of the wooden windows, washi paper screens, and rice straw mattresses that inspire much of the work she creates today with @artdetama.
Encouraging people to “wear art, not trends,” Tamao’s carefully handcrafted pieces are intended to be “wearable art” that bring inner peace & calmness.
This piece that Tamao has generously gifted me, is from her Shizuku Dewdrop collection. The cultured pearls dangling from the elegant wood setting is meant to symbolize glowing dew drops in the quiet dawn.
I personally LOVE Tamao’s intentionality in handcrafting these unique, calming pieces; and am always excited to support small, WOC-owned businesses. With #smallbusinesssaturday coming up this weekend, I highly recommend checking out her work!

Inspired by my IG friends @mayetteraisa & @gabrielasage with today’s #ethicalootd, and this semi-monochrome look with my @shoplastbrand Mongolian Cashmere sweater.
It’s been a little bit since my last ootd post, and I’m looking forward to more of these come December 😬 But in the meantime I’m excited to share about @shoplastbrand , and their ethical manufacturing practices with surprisingly reasonable prices, working to make shopping ethically more financially accessible through a more direct-to-consumer model.
This specific sweater is cashmere made from Hircus cashmere goats in inner-Mongolia. The family-owned factory that manufactures this piece in small-batch quantities has worked with the same farmers for over 30 years, building established relationships. They pay for the hair of the entire herd so that farmers can focus on tending to the needs of their goats, rather than seeking out business.
@shoplastbrand is relatively new, but I’m always excited to share about up-and-coming brands that are working to change the narrative in the fashion industry in transparency in pricing AND practices. Give them a follow, and if you see anything you fancy you can use the code MARIKOFREE for complimentary express shipping.
This is not a sponsored post, but @shoplastbrand did gift me this sweater in exchange for sharing about them with y’all. And tbh, I’m a fan of this simple, yet elegant piece. I’ll give ya close-up look in IG stories later today!
